6/27  Carol & Aaron Martinez’ daughter, Deborah, had a c-section today to deliver Connor Logan Ripka. He weighed 4 pounds, 11 ounces. They have discovered a situation which necessities his transfer to Vanderbilt to be evaluated with possible surgery planned. The family has requested our prayers for Connor, Deborah & Karl and the Martinez family.

6/26 We received a request via the web to pray for Theda Sims' cousin Melinda who is in Vanderbilt Hospital. Theda writes that: She got a wonderful report today but still needs lots of prayer due to the seriousness of her condition. I love and miss you all very much!

6/21 Update from Sue Thweatt on Jenni Shipman and the twins:

The emergency is over but the urgency of prayer is not and won't be for a long time, hopefully. Jenni's membranes are ruptured, but she has retained plenty of fluid around each baby. The ultrasound showed each baby is fine, hearts healthy. Jenni has been admitted to Baptist Hosp. (room 3201) on complete bedrest until she delivers, which we hope is a long, long, long time--praying for it to be a minimum of 2.5 weeks and as long as 10 weeks--the longer the better. The babies are not viable for a miniumum of 1.5 weeks, so continue to pray that they will stay right where they are until they can survive. The major concerns are:

* Infection, which would necessitate delivery--she is on antibiotics

* premature labor, which they cannot stop

I'd recommend no visitors right now, give them a couple of weeks to adjust.

Thanks for your immediate prayers and please continue to pray. This whole thing has been such a show of God's majesty and wisdom and power--the churches in Cincinnati and at Antioch are the hands and feet of Jesus, a beautiful testimony of God's love. Sue

Address for cards: Jenni Shipman Baptist Hospital 2000 Church Street, Room 3201Nashville, TN 37236

Risk for infection is a main concern; no visitors at this time. Please continue to pray.

4/17 Adonnica Schmittou is to begin chemotherapy and radiation treatments next week. Please pray that treatment will be successful, that the cancer has not spread, and that no additional cancer will be present. 4/18 We received an from Ron thanking us for all the encouraging calls and messages. A portion is below:

Adonnica had some more test today and prayers are being answered. The doctors believe the cancer is contained in the one area. They do not think it has grown through the walls of the colon into other areas of the body. They said this type of cancer reacts very favorably to radiation and chemo shrinking the cancer so that it can be removed easier. Plan now is for both to start next week and run for about 5 weeks. Followed by 5 weeks of rest at which time they will perform the surgery. We appreciate all offers and everyone has been great but for now just keep praying. Pray that the genetic study results come back negative. This will decrease chances of the cancer returning and eliminate that this could be passed down to our 3 daughters. Pray that the chemo and radiation work and that Adonnica can maintain her strength through it all. Pray that the cancer is contained in this 1 area. Pray that the doctors are able to perform the surgery that will impact Adonnica's normal lifestyle the least. Pray that this makes me a better husband and Dad, otherwise I have gained nothing from this experience. Thanks God is Good Ron Schmittou

Aug 29 Update on Renee Bissell:

Friends – It’s been awhile since we’ve updated you on Renee’s health and progress. She continues to improve, is getting stronger and feeling better each day. We received the results of the pathology tests on Tuesday, which showed no cancer in the lymph nodes, a true blessing from God. We meet today (Wednesday) with her surgeon to discuss next steps, and hope to select an oncologist soon. The surgeon told her yesterday that chemotherapy treatment is almost a certainty given the nature of the tumor, which was an aggressive, invasive type that was hormone-receptive negative. Please continue to pray for Renee as she prepares for the long and potentially difficult chemo phase.

Even as this difficult situation swirls around us, we have been blessed abundantly by the outpouring of support we’ve received from the Antioch family and many others throughout the country and world. The cards, flowers, gifts, food, e-mails, best wishes and prayers have been nothing short of overwhelming and have buoyed our spirits throughout this ordeal. We are truly blessed to be part of a loving and compassionate church family. Feel free to e-mail Renee at bissells@united.net if you’d like to send her a message. Again, thank you for your ongoing support and prayers.  Ken

If you find the time, visit his carepage. I believe you will be encouraged.

Aug 21 We received this email from Denise Trice earlier today.

Good afternoon everyone,

Wanted to inform you all of the news I received from my Oncologist this morning. My original breast cancer (6 years ago) has metastasized to the bones in the pelvic area. Many of you know that I have been in a lot of pain for the past several months in my back and having difficulty walking. X-rays and MRI on friday confirmed what I thought was going to turn out to be the need for a hip replacement, that it was indeed cancer. There are 2 spots, one the size of a quarter, (the one that's causing my pain) and the other which is smaller. It does not appear to be anywhere else. My cancer is estrogen induced so the first step is to stop all estrogen production. There are several ways to do that with the most extreme being complete hysterectomy. If you know me well, you know I always choose the extreme. The estrogen can be temporarily stopped so that I may begin radiation treatments immediately. Then surgery. Chemo is a last option if the first 2 don't work. Emotionally and spiritually I am fine!! Just like last time, once I found out I'm ready to get started, sooner than later, knock this out and get past it. I took Braxton to school this morning, sent Craig off to work and have been paying bills on-line. God gave me the "peace that passes understanding" last time and he has already given it to me this time. My head and my hopes are high and I hope you will join me with the same attitude. If you're negative...we don't need to hang out! I love life and life has been good to me. I love God and God has been great to me! Cancer made me a better and stronger person and maybe I'll double that this time.

Here's some rules for you: I am not Cancer, it is in me. Don't treat me like I'm sick. Don't feel sorry for me, after all I'm better for going through it. Do pray for me and my family. Pray for peace, healing and God's will. I love you all and don't be afraid to call or email me.  Blessings, Denise
