Lupita is from Honduras and has a severe form of skin cancer. Your generous gifts provide the medicines and treatments for Lupita’s health care needs.

I want to share with you all some of the “God stories!” that came out of this event. This is a lengthy report, but I want you to read and feel the excitement that many others and I are feeling.
First, we had plenty of food and lots of help. God provided for all our needs and our class recognized this. Flor said today that she could feel the Spirit of the Lord with us in the kitchen.
Several area bakeries donated the Tres Leches cakes that we served for dessert. Flor and Raquel went to several and asked for donations. We ended up with $400 worth of dessert donated! Estela also received donations and discounts from several Hispanic meat markets in the area. Many flyers were left at area businesses.
On Saturday, we worked in the kitchen from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. preparing food. At one point, we realized we needed some large fryers for Sunday morning. Wayne Russell happened to come by and mention he had a couple and would be glad to have them here for us Sunday morning. He even went a step further, went up to the pavilion, and fried hundreds of tacos dorados for us. Flor drove them back and forth to the building as it was raining. Thank you, Hermano Wayne, we all appreciate you!
At the second meal, a little Hispanic man came in and asked it this was the dinner for Lupita. He came from El Pueblito Supermercado and brought in a homemade donations box from his store with money in it from customers. No one knew him, but he was touched by Lupita’s story and wanted to help.
The children’s Mexican dance troupe (Little Pieces of Mexico) was awesome in their native costumes and storytelling through dance. They performed at both meals and all the children donated money to Lupita. An unexpected bonus was having all the parents of these little performers come into our building. We were able to introduce them to our church and our programs. They kept thanking US for having them come!
The Christian singing group upstairs was great and they began by praying for our church and for Lupita. Oscar represented our congregation and thanked them at the end of the program. He also led us all in a prayer and had everyone in the audience come together up front to pray. This is a professional group who donated their services to us and thanked US for having them here.
We had many visitors and I spoke individually to them all. I invited them to English classes as well as to worship services. We gave out bookmarks with a photo of Lupita to remind people to pray for her and information about our church on the back. These were in English and in Spanish.
When Jim counted all the money for both dinners, he said the largest single check written was for $250. He said he has never seen anything like this. In the past, there are usually a few large checks that make up the bulk of money donated for a fundraiser. For ours, there were lots of checks and lots of cash and lots of change---not from one group, but obviously donated from people across the board. When Jim Taylor says something like this is amazing, then that is exciting stuff!
Everyone from Estudio Bíblico came to help as well as Dave and Katy, Jim and Gale, Cathy and Ted Collins, Mike and Carol Dotson, Mark, and many others. Bill Smith stayed and helped with the second dinner. Jeff and Tiffany Batts offered to refill the salsa and chips at each table as well as help set up for the second meal.
I am sure more stories will emerge in the upcoming weeks. Today in Ladies Class I heard many encouraging remarks. Our ladies are really beginning to integrate as a group. It is exciting to watch!
As for our goals for the Lupita dinner, our goal to raise money to help Lupita was reached. Our goal for our Estudio Bíblico class to serve was reached. Our goal for our class to be more visible and interact with our church members was reached. This is a very exciting time to see God working among us and through us. Thank you for your support.
¡Que Dios les bendiga! (May God bless you all).
In HIS service,
Lisa
