The Antioch congregation began meeting in 1892. In 1925 the congregation moved to a frame building on Antioch Pike, which was plagued by flooding. The membership purchased the present land site, and a new building was completed and occupied in 1960. Members hand dug a basement to provide additional space. The early 1980’s were a period of rapid growth, and the small building was quickly outgrown. In 1984 an auditorium and fellowship hall were completed. God continued to bless Antioch, and in 1992 construction of a new educational wing was completed. Through the years, as staff positions changed and more personnel became necessary God provided people like Weldon Rickman, James Craighead, Jim Taylor, David Vaughn, Matt Owensby, Andrew Sowards, Mike Root, Sue Thweatt, Barbara Biffle, and Sheryl Friend to fill those spots. In 2001 Wayne Holt, Kent Johnson, and Jim Thweatt joined Ron Cunningham, Junior Grimes, Wayne Pyle, Bill Reeves, and Ernie Scarbrough to serve as elders. In 2005, Ernie Scarbrough, Wayne Pyle, and Bill Reeves retired as elders and Stephen Bridges, Tommy Irons, Wayne Russell, and Todd Wigginton were appoited as elders. In August, 2005 Michael Whittington joined the staff as Senior Minister. In addition, Antioch has over 40 men serving as deacons. “The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.” ~Acts 11:26 For additional information concerning Antioch's history, visit our history page.
